I like fish.
I was born on the west side of Lake Weishan, which is the largest water in North China. There are 17 rivers and countless pools in our county. Our old house was surrounded by water, except for a path connecting to the rest of the village. Rice and lotus are the most important crops in our hometown. Before the school age, I often played with a loach or a crab in the field, which was caught by my parents when they were farming.
I was occupied in catching fish when I became a little older, mainly angling. Most of the times I caught nothing except one day, when I went home after school, I saw some people were catching fish in a river. The turbid water became pitch black because of them wading around. Though only a few little fish were caught, I couldn't help jumping into the river. Several minutes later, a big fish suddenly soared into the air and fell on the bank, which happened to be very near me. I hurried up the bank, pressed the fish with my body and caught it tight.
The news spread throughout our village within an hour. All said that I had caught a big fish, very big, even bigger than me. Actually, it was only two kilograms.
Now I have no time to catch fish, but I keep several in a tank. Every time I see them eating food, I think of my childhood and my hometown.
