1. Chew the fat

Chew the fat不是“嚼肥肉”，而是指友好地随便聊聊，也就是“闲聊”的意思。

例：They met up once a year to chew the fat about the old days.

他们每年聚上一次，闲聊些旧日往事。

2. Shoot the breeze

Breeze意指“微风”。“说大话”、“闲聊”英文都可以说shoot the breeze。

例：We sat around in the bar, shooting the breeze.

我们坐在酒吧里闲聊。

3. Have a good gossip

Gossip有“八卦”之意，have a good gossip就是聊其他人的私事，意指“闲聊”、“八卦”。

例：I like having a good gossip now and then.

我喜欢偶尔和人闲聊。

4. Chat away

Chat一词指“聊天”，chat up可表示“搭讪”，chat away则意指“闲聊” 。喜欢聊个没完的人，英文还可用chatterbox ( 话匣子) 表示。

例：Within minutes of being introduced they were chatting away like old friends.

5. Idle talk

Idle可表示“空闲”、“无所事事”， idle talk 则指“闲聊”。
