2014年，我们又学到了好多新出现的英语词汇。源自国外的冰桶挑战一度风靡；朋友圈营销让人又爱又恨，点赞狂人时刻都在点赞；剁手族跨出国门成为海淘主力，人们争相要跟土豪做朋友；来自星星的炸鸡和啤酒让人们欲罢不能，备胎男女成为新的关注焦点。以下是中国日报根据网友票选评出的2014年度十大英语新词，虽然是英语新词，但每一个都跟国内的热点有关，快来一起学一学！

1. Ice Bucket Challenge 冰桶挑战

2014年，"冰桶挑战"风靡社交网络，比尔·盖茨、马克·扎克伯格以及贾斯汀·汀布莱克等各界名人争相参与。我们来看看这个活动到底是怎么回事吧。

网络和社交媒体上最火爆的活动之一，其实是在专业高尔夫球场上低调开始的。

The so-called ice-bucket challenge - dump ice water on yourself, post and tag yourself on social media and challenge others to do the same - got its start among golfers as a way to support pet charities. In just a few weeks, it has become a major fundraising coup for patients and organizations with ALS, a neurodegenerative disorder.

"冰桶挑战"活动要求参与人将一桶冰水浇在自己身上，然后将整个过程发布在社交网站上，并点名其他人来接受挑战，这个活动最初是高尔夫球员为支持宠物慈善发起的。在短短几周内，冰桶挑战便成为为肌萎缩性脊髓侧索硬化症(ASL)患者和相关公益组织筹集善款的重要活动。

One common stipulation gives 24 hours to complete the dare from the time they are nominated; otherwise, the participant has to donate at least $100 to the ASL Association.

根据惯例，被提名者要在被提名的24小时内完成挑战，否则就要向ASL协会捐出至少100美元。

2. Hands-chopping people 剁手族

双十一已成为让"剁手族"疯狂的一场血拼盛宴。你知道"剁手族"用英文怎么说吗？

The world's biggest online shopping day on Nov 11 has ended with record sales of RMB57.1 billion for China's Alibaba. Taobao said that the number of the so-called "hands-chopping people" has reached 1.08 million out of its 500 million registered customers.

全世界最盛大的网络购物节"双十一"以阿里巴巴571亿元的创纪录销售额画上句号。淘宝方面表示，在其5亿注册用户中，可以称为"剁手族"的已达108万。

"Hands-chopping people" are big online spenders who self-mockingly say that they would like to chop their hands off after buying too much online.

"剁手族"其实就是网购大户，他们自嘲地表示，因为在网上买了太多东西，他们恨不得将自己的手剁下来。

3. Dobe 逗比

逗比这个词可火了有一阵子了，年轻人喜欢用，郭德纲还在相声中调侃道"你是猴子请来的逗比吗"，这么深入人心的词哪能没有英文翻译？就让我们来学学它的英文表达。

Dobe is a Japanese slang word for "idiot". Chinese youngsters use it to refer to a ridiculous person who is a stranger, or a funny one who is a friend.

"逗比"是日语里用来形容笨蛋的俚语。中国的年轻人用它来形容那些荒唐的陌生人或好笑的朋友。

We can comprehend this composite word as a funny 2B (idiot). Simply put, it means someone is funny, a little silly and cute. With its widespread use, more and more people consider it a neutral word. If we use it to describe a stranger, we are more talking of a stupid stranger. If it alludes to a friend, then it is used to mock and make fun of the friend.

根据合成词原则"逗比"可以理解为：挺逗的二比。简单的说，就是说某个人很逗，有点犯二，有点可爱。随着它的使用范围逐步扩大，越来越多人将它用作中性词。如果用来描述陌生人，指别人傻的意思多一点。如果是好朋友之间说，那就是调侃和玩笑的意思多一点！

Example:

He's such a dobe. He used the dice to decide his answers in the multiple choice questions.

他就是个逗比。他用骰子决定多选题答案。

4. Easy like 点赞狂人

你的朋友圈上有没有这样的朋友？他们基本上会对你或者每一个朋友发的东西点赞，这样的人我们叫他easy like - 点赞狂人。

An easy like gives up their "likes" almost indiscriminately. Typically they will "like" almost any post you make, regardless of how mundane or unlikeworthy it actually was.

一般来说，点赞狂人点赞无国界，他们几乎对什么都点赞，不管它们是否无聊或值得被赞。

He "likes" your coffee, your phiz, even your book. It seems that "like" has become another way of expressing emotions whether happy, sad, boring or astonishing.

发一杯咖啡他点赞，发一个表情他点赞，发一本书他也点赞……无论快乐、悲伤、无聊或惊奇，点赞已经成为他们表达情感的另一种方式。

Steve: Hey man, check it out. Laura "liked" my status from last night about me coming in 17th place in that bowling competition!

Joe: Calm down bro, she's such an easy like.

史蒂夫：喂，伙计快看，劳拉赞了我昨晚那条保龄球比赛得了第17名的状态！

5. Jet setting lifestyle 土豪生活

最近Instagram上的一个小公主Pixie火了，不为别的，就因为她年仅2岁就拥有了自己的事业，并且过着jet setting lifestyle——土豪生活！Jet set的意思是乘喷气客机到处旅游的富豪。

Jet setting lifestyle refers to a lavish lifestyle the rich leads.

土豪生活就是富人所拥有的一种奢侈的生活方式。

Pixie has hundreds of photographs showing off her lavish lifestyle online. In one she sits dressed in shades and a sun hat, posing by a pool at a luxury villa sipping at a non-alcoholic cocktail with the air of a millionaire lady.

网上有几百张炫耀Pixie奢侈生活方式的照片。在一张照片里她戴着墨镜和太阳帽，坐在豪华别墅的游泳池旁边，啜着一杯无酒精鸡尾酒，活脱脱一位百万名媛。

Example:

6. Friendvertising 朋友圈营销

代购护肤品、奶粉、奢侈品……打开微信朋友圈，仿佛登陆了手机淘宝网。时下，一种新的熟人营销模式在朋友圈悄然兴起。这种利用朋友圈的"杀熟"做法就是friendvertising(朋友圈营销)。

Friendvertising is the use of social media website "friends" to disseminate video adverts for products. Some videos have an apparently good message that people want to share and others are heart-warming or funny, but all are covert brand endorsements.

"朋友圈营销"是借助社交网站上的"好友"来散播产品的视频广告。有些视频显然包含一些人们想分享的正面信息，还有的或温情或搞笑，但所有这些视频都是暗中为某个品牌代言。

Example:

"Friendvertising" is the latest trick by marketers who want you to sell their brand.

"朋友圈营销"是营销人员推广品牌的最新伎俩。

7. Fried chicken and beer 炸鸡和啤酒

2014年初韩剧《来自星星的你》大热，一时间"炸鸡和啤酒"成了人们舌尖上的新美味。细数看过的韩剧，还是有不少让人印象深刻的美食的，一起来看看这些美食的英语说法吧。

《来自星星的你》女主角那句"初雪时，怎能没有炸鸡和啤酒"让这两样食物在寒冷冬季一下子变得诱人起来。至于好不好吃，见仁见智。

bibimbap 拌饭

看过《我是金三顺》的朋友一定不会忘记三顺捧着不锈钢大盆，大口大口地吃着泡菜拌饭的样子吧。

《我是金三顺》中的美食之一。越烫口越香。

Miyeok guk 海带汤

又是《金三顺》，不得不说，这是很经典的一部美食韩剧。韩国人过生日时都要吃这个。

Korean Soju 烧酒

几乎在每部韩剧中都会出现，主人公无论是高富帅还是屌丝女，都喜欢到路边摊去吃烧烤喝烧酒。

韩剧中的拉面与其说是拉面，不如说是instant noodles(方便面)。看着他们拿着锅盖挑着方便面吃得热乎乎的样子，恨不得自己也马上跑去买一包来吃。

韩剧中的女人们个个都会做紫菜包饭。虽然《浪漫满屋》里韩智恩和李英宰互"塞"紫菜包饭的情景让人看了没什么胃口，不过紫菜包饭还是挺好吃的。

米肠怎么吃？答曰：用牙签插着吃。参考韩剧《乞丐王子》。

8. Rebound guy/girl 备胎

失恋后的情感空窗期最是难熬，有人会在此伤心困顿之际，随便找一个异性来交往，以填补内心的空虚并试图麻醉自己。这时候交往的对象，就属于rebound guy/girl(备胎)，说白了就是"temporary lover(临时情人)"。

Rebound guy/girl is a guy/girl used on the sideline by an individual if he/she thinks his/her relationship is going to end.

"备胎"就是一个人觉得一段感情快要结束时，留在身边"备用"的暧昧男/女。

Rebound guy/girl would do anything for you or accompany you once you ask, for instance, having a lunch, seeing a film or going to a concert. Also, they would never go Dutch but take care of you for everything. Apart from that, they are likely to bring you gifts if they happen to be born loaded including luxury bags, laptops, jewelry as long as you are joyful.

吃午餐、看电影、听演唱会，你只要一开口，"备胎"就会为你打点一切，而且他是绝不接受你跟他们"AA制"的，因为他要照顾你的一切。除此之外，如果对方是家底丰厚的"备胎"，更会隔三差五送你礼物。即使贵重如名牌包包、手提电脑、珠宝首饰，为博你一笑，就算花再多的钱都心甘情愿。

Being a rebound guy is a situation that very few men feel comfortable with. Rebound relationships cause a lot of trouble to everyone involved.

很少有男人会乐意成为备胎。备胎关系也会给所有相关人带来麻烦。

Example:

I don't really like her; she's just my rebound girl. This rebound relationship doesn't count.

我其实不喜欢她啦，她就是个备胎而已，这段感情不算数。

9. Courting envy 拉仇恨

深夜晒美食是拉仇恨，朋友圈晒旅行美照也是拉仇恨。好像任何美好的东西晒给朋友看，他们都会说这是在拉仇恨。那么这个"拉仇恨"用英文到底怎么说呢？

When someone shows off to his or her friends anything from a newly bought bargain to a weight loss achieved in a short time, some of the friends will say, as an indirect flatter, that it is an act of courting envy.

当有人向他/她的朋友们晒自己最新买到的打折品或者展示短时间内成功瘦身的成果等值得炫耀的事情时，朋友们一般都会说他们这是在"拉仇恨"，其实，这是间接的恭维啦。

Example:

Jane is showing off her newly bought LV handbag on her WeChat, that's just courting envy.

简在她的微信朋友圈里晒她新买的LV包包，这简直是在拉仇恨嘛。

10. Wake Up Call campaign 起床照挑战

Celebrities have been taking to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in their droves to take part in the new Wake Up Call campaign, which is being dubbed the new Ice Bucket challenge.

大批明星在Twitter、Facebook和Instagram上参加新冰桶挑战——"起床照挑战" 。

The brand new Internet craze involves celebrities posting selfies of themselves as they wake up in bed - and aims to raise money and awareness for UNICEF. Pictures are posted with the hashtag #WAKEUPCALL #UNICEF - with each person nominating three others to do the same.

参加这场新网络狂潮的名人们要发布自己在床上醒来时的自拍照，照片带着#起床照挑战 #联合国儿童基金会的字样，每个人点名其他三个人做同样的事情，此举意在引起人们对"联合国儿童基金会"的关注并为其捐款。
