文中的April Fools' Day就是“愚人节”的意思，是西方社会民间传统节日，在每年4月1日，不分男女老幼，可以互开玩笑、互相愚弄欺骗，以换得娱乐。
第一句中的prank，作名词，意为“开玩笑；恶作剧”，如：My older sister put me up to making the prank telephone call.（是我姐姐怂恿我打这个恶作剧电话的。），类似地，trick作名词，意为“诡计；花招”，也可以指玩花招愚弄别人，如：play a trick on somebody（拿某人开玩笑，捉弄某人）。（海词英语）
